The town of Penguin is nestled on the coast beneath the Dial Range. There are numerous drives and walking tracks through the range which includes the start of the Penguin to Cradle walking trail.
Sleepy Dell Cottage is situated at the southern end of the Dial Range and there is a walking track from the cottage joining up with a track to Mt Lorymer.
Other walking tracks in the Dial Range include:
- Tall Trees (45 minutes)
- Mount Montgomery (2 hrs)
- Mount Gnomon (2 hrs)
- Mount Duncan (3 hrs)
- Mt Lorymer (4 hrs return from Sleepy Dell Cottage)

In summer, take a night walk in Ferndene ( 8 minutes’ drive south from Penguin, located in the foot hills of the Dial Range) you might witness an eerie sight as glow worm guide your path.
